FARMISPHERE were among the 12 innovators selected during the DIGILOGIC Open Call for proposals to address logistics challenges across Africa and Europe. These Nigerian innovators are focussed on improving fresh food logistics with cold boxes, which can be attached to delivery bikes and trunks of vehicles. These cold boxes need to maintain the internal temperatures needed to keep seafood and other foodstuffs fresh in the sometimes intense heat of Nigerian traffic.
Amidst the heavy Nigerian traffic of cars and trucks, Farmisphere utilises mostly 2-wheel motorcycles, also known as Okada and 3-wheel tricycles known as Keke to deliver fresh food products in their well-controlled cooling boxes. Farmisphere could have suffered a setback when 2-wheel motorcycles were banned by government restrictions in Nigeria’s Rivers State. However, they turned this potential setback into a step forward.
After having focused their operations in Lagos they realized the immense shortfall of available aquaculture and other high protein foods. Accordingly, they decided to expand upon Farmishere by creating a bigger business with wider scope, which they call Agrisiti. This business expands upon Farmisphere by contributing more broadly to urban food systems. In particular, Agristi contributes to meeting demand for aquaculture and other high protein food sources by facilitating production in urban houses and schools. Recently they have expanded to include fruiting and non-fruiting vegetables in their urban agriculture initiatives. Thus, they hope to contribute to reducing urban food deserts and to enabling urban populations to have a healthier diets.

Agristi have already delivered more than 24 tons of aquaculture products, 12 tons of poultry meat, eggs and vegetables. Farmisphere has distributed products to and from schools, farms, urban households and residents. Currently, Agristi is constructing six school farms, and ten more will kick off during the next three months.
DIGILOGIC has already provided them with technical advice about cool box engineering for demanding conditions. DIGILOGIC will continue to provide expert mentoring to Farmisphere, and connect them with other initiatives as they develop and scale up their solutions.
