March 14, 2023SnooCODE innovation enables high precision digital addressing of physical locations anywhere
SnooCODE is a digital addressing system that allows anyone anywhere in the world to do the following: generate a memorable 5-7 digit alpha numeric address (a SnooCODE) for their location; save the location in their SnooCODE address book; and share the SnooCODE with anybody else to open a map leading to the exact location.
A SnooCODE can be many hundreds of times more precise than a typical European postcode that is related to a street name and a building number. SnooCODE even works where and when there is no Internet connection, which makes it very well suited for many parts of the world that have limited internet connectivity.
Dr Markus Witthaut, a senior logistics experts at Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute, sees SnooCODE as having wide potential for application. In particular, for all transport tasks, the existence of reliable and easy-to-understand addresses is a necessity. Drivers must always be able to find the correct start and destination addresses easily. Shippers of goods as well as passengers must be able to understand addresses. However, geo-coordinates are not as good for this as addresses consisting of postcode, city name, street name and building number. Yet, in many parts of the world and in many African regions in particular, such reliable address schemes are lacking. This is where SnooCODE's services provide a remedy and enable the implementation of many smart logistics solutions such as innovative ride sharing or transport tracking services.
Dr Stephen Fox, a principal scientist at Digilogic consortium partner VTT, considers SnooCODE to be an exemplar of leapfrog technology. This is because SnooCODE offers technology that enables countries to leapfrog over the need for named streets and numbered buildings. Moreover, SnooCODE leapfrogs over dependency on Internet connectivity. Thus, SnooCODE enables instant addressing anywhere. This can facilitate many important aspects of digital logistics in Africa where there are no street names and building numbers, such as route optimization and delivery verification.
